Since our inception in 1920, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has worked diligently to procure benefits for disabled veterans and their families. We are a non-profit organization that has no affiliation with the government, nor do we receive any subsidies or funding. At DAV, we work to enhance our understanding of the horrors of previous wars and their effects. We continue to build our knowledge on the issues currently pertinent to the newest generation of heroes. Historically, DAV has focused on the effects on veterans from mustard gas of World War I, radiation poisoning of WWII, Agent Orange and PTSD from the Vietnam Era. Now we are working diligently to understand the issues of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and severe amputations, as well as the increased survival rate from these injuries and the obstacles they face. Many think the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) takes care of all veterans’ needs, especially those injured in service. Due to the current transitioning practices within the VA and the backlog of claims, DAV is forever vigilant in addressing the wellbeing of our nation’s veterans.
